A day in the life

Guest post by student writer Isabel A.:

Hi! It is a rainy day in Dublin, but it has been full of writing, walking, and experiencing the city. We spent two hours this morning reading and writing in our workshop groups. Afterwards, we went to an apothecary run by a man who speaks nine languages and knows everything imaginable about James Joyce. The apothecary has a weekly reading of The Dubliners that attracts people from all over the world. There was a woman from France at the reading who comes every week to improve her English, another who came to the reading during her lunch break, and a family from the United States came in at the end. We all drank tea and read a few of the short stories. At the end of one of the stories, the man who owns the apothecary played a song on his guitar. We listened and discussed the book. When the reading was over, we listened to each others’ pieces, went to an Irish dance class, listened to a fiddle group, and had a delicious dinner. It’s been a great day in Ireland!
